How To Organize Your Closet in 5 Easy Steps

Above: Monique Lhuillier’s gorgeous closet

Closet envy. We all have it. That moment when you’re watching the Kardashians and one of the scenes is in Kim’s walk-in closet and everything is super organized and there’s even a chaise for K.K. to sit on and admire her clothing before making her selection for the day. How can you not want that?

Although I might never reach a point in my life when I have a gigantic closet the size of my current NYC apartment, there’s no reason why I can’t strive to keep my regular-sized closet organized. In fact, I deserve to keep it as tidy as possible, and my clothes and accessories deserve it too. That’s why I reorganize my closet twice a year, once in the fall, when I have to switch from leather jackets to parkas, and once in the springtime, when lightweight cashmere replaces my chunky cable-knit sweaters.

Keep reading for a step-by-step guide to organizing your closet. And please let me know how it goes!

Monday Musings of a New Mom

Happy Monday!! It’s the first day of August and I’m feeling great after an amazing weekend. Baby Will could not stop laughing the whole time and his mood was contagious. He’s three and a half months and such a cutie pie! Even though I’m still not used to leaving him to go to the office every day, I feel so blessed that I can come home to his smiling face every night.

Above is an outfit detail from the Cynthia Rowley dress I’m wearing to work today. Don’t you just love the perforated sleeves?? This is the first dress I bought for myself after Will was born. He was about 6 weeks old and I was exhausted. My mom came over to help me, took one look at me in my messy hair and leggings and ordered me to get showered, dressed, and go do something for myself. So I went shopping in the village! I felt so guilty leaving Will but I was only gone for three hours and he slept for most of that time.

Putting on this dress this morning made me smile because it’s a symbol of my new life and love, and also reminds me that becoming a mom DID make me a new person–a better version of me.

Happy Monday!

Beauty Review: Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser

Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser Review

I just finished my bottle of Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser and after I write this post I’m going online to order another one. Why? Keep reading…

Product: Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser
Details: A non-toxic, balancing facial cleanser made of 100% natural ingredients (like broccoli extract!!), this cleanser washes away toxins, excess oil, and dead skin cells, leaving your skin refreshed.
Price: $62 at
Pros: This soap-free cleanser has a silky consistency and deep cleans without drying out my face. After use, my skin feels clean, supple, and well-balanced. It also evens out any redness and minimizes the appearance of the pores around my nose and chin–a constant problem for me.  What’s more, this cleanser smells so yummy–like a walk through a field of wild flowers and herbs!
Cons: The expensive price tag. I will say though that it lasts a long time because a little goes a long way.
Final Say: I give it a 5 out of 5. I love that it’s 100% non-toxic, and that it leaves my skin feeling super clean and amazingly soft, smooth, and smelling beautifully. It’s perfect for my combination skin and balances my oily T-zone, especially in the summer.

Mood Board Monday: Summer Denim

Ocean Blues - Summer Denim
I usually put away my denim for the summer, but this season designers are giving the fabric an irresistible warm-weather reboot. Lisa Marie Fernandez is even making swimsuits out of the material! Her swimwear is definitely the biggest splurge on my list of summer denim must-haves, but something tells me the suits are worth it.

1. See By Chloe Two-Tone Denim Espadrille
2. Fresh Life Oval Soap
3. Stella McCartney Falabella Star-Print Denim Clutch
4.L’Agence Denim Paperbag Waist Shorts
5. Lisa Marie Fernandez Arden Flounce Denim Swimsuit
6. Madewell Chambray Muralist Jumpsuit

Wellness Wednesday: Sweet Kale Smoothie

Kale and Strawberry SmoothieCucumber adds a refreshing touch to this surprisingly indulgent smoothie. Just make sure to use unsweetened almond milk because the bananas and strawberries add enough sugar for a few servings.

Sweet Kale Smoothie

Makes 2 tall glasses, takes 5 minutes.

  • Leaves torn from 3 stalks of kale
  • 1 banana
  • 2 handfuls of strawberries
  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled, seeded, and chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups of your favorite unsweetened almond milk
  • a handful of ice

Add kale, banana, strawberries, and cucumber to a standup blender. Pour in almond milk, add ice, and blend until smooth.

My Favorite Baby Clothes

Sampling Heart Pants Final
Above, Little Boy Blue Heart Pants by Sapling.

As a new mom, I can’t help but be overly picky when it comes to what I put on my baby. When I first got pregnant I was totally against buying any cotton clothing that wasn’t organic… but that has definitely changed since I’ve become a mom. There are a few organic and eco-friendly clothing companies that I love, like Sapling (aren’t their little heart pants above adorable?!!), but when it comes to practicality I can’t completely discriminate against non-organic brands.

The key is knowing which brands to splurge on and how to save. Herewith, my favorite clothing brands for my new baby.

This Australian baby clothing brand prides itself on using only 100% organic cotton. Their designs are super fun and printed with only water-based, non-toxic dyes. Items are well-made and keep their shape even after multiple washes.
Botton Line: $$$

My go to for simple essentials, Giggle’s Better Basics line is made of 100% organic cotton. From bibs to pajamas, the styles are all simple and the fabric as soft as can be. All perfect for baby’s sensitive skin.
Botton Line: $$$

Ralph Lauren
Hands down one of my favorite brands for baby. The clothes are never sloppy looking or ill-fitting so I know they’ll always look good on my little guy. I love some of the outfits so much that I’ve bought them in multiple sizes! Pricing isn’t cheap but the website is always running some promotion or another so I make sure to only buy items when they’re on sale.
Botton Line: $$

Little Me
This brand surprised me as my favorite for footie pajamas. The designs are super sweet–many of them have baby animals on them–and my little one looks adorable in them. The company uses only super-soft fabrics like cotton and velour, too, so their clothes are always extra cozy for baby to sleep in.
Botton Line: $-$$

This brand is an obvious favorite for all mothers. I love that they sell clothing in cute little mix-and-match sets, and that they’re always having a sale. Styles are all made from durable fabrics that keeps their shape even after multiple washes each week.

Staying Hydrated During Pregnancy

Staying Hydrate Late in Pregnancy

Staying hydrated is especially important late in pregnancy. Drinking ample fluids will give you energy, help keep pesky colds at bay, and even make your cheeks rosy! These fluids will also transfer into your amniotic sac, giving baby energy and sustenance too. You’ll both need the boost when it’s time for delivery.

But how much water can a person really drink in the course of a day?! Over the past few weeks I’ve tried to get creative with my hydration tactics. I’ve been snacking on foods with high water content like watermelon, celery, and cucumber. And while I still drink a ton of water, I’ve been alternating between regular and sparkling, and even squeeze some lime or lemon into a few glasses a day just to jazz things up a bit.

Happy hydrating!
